This is where Aculeus Pest Control gets its name!
Scorpions are predatory arachnids. They mainly live in deserts but have adapted to a wide range of conditions. Scorpions primarily prey on insects, but some larger species hunt small vertebrates. Before mating, scorpions perform a courtship ritual that resembles a dance known as a "promenade á deux" (French for "walk for two"). Scorpions are viviparous, meaning they give birth to live young. The young will stay on the mother's back where they are fiercely protected. While on the back, the babies absorb a nutritious yolk sac before leaving a few days later for their first molt. In certain species, babies have been known to stay in mother's care for as long as two years. Adult scorpions have fluorescent chemicals in their hyaline layer. This causes them to glow in UV light. Scientists aren't entirely sure what advantage this offers, but it sure makes it easier to find them with a blacklight. Feel free to send in pictures of your glowing scorpions!
